Social bookmarking has become very well known and many bloggers already understand how they can benefit from the use of social bookmarking sites, but then there are many who are clueless when it comes to finding and understanding the techniques to market there blogs. Google has adopted a method to determine the value of websites and they are doing it by assigning pagerank or PR to sites. The maximum rank a site can get is 10. A site which you have just created won’t be having any PR. It may sometimes not be having even PR 0. In such conditions, if you check the PR of your site, you may find it as N/A – that means not available. It might be due to the reason that – Google might not have gone through your site or they might have found it violating some rules.

Anyways, first you should be installing a page rank checking plugin in your browser. It’ll help you to check the PR of your site instantly. Google used to update PR once in 3-4 months. It was the situation that was with Google earlier. But now, things have pretty much changed. The last 2-3 PR updates took place in like 1-2 months gap. Google might be thinking of doing something cool.

Some domains get a pretty good PR in the very first update after it gets registered. One of the domains that I registered recently got PR 4 in the very first Google PR update. It’s not necessary for your site’s PR to start from zero or one. It can start from any number (<=10). But, you should be prepared to face the fate, if it jumps backwards as well. Yup, that's true, the PR of your site can go downwards also. If Google thinks that your site is not worth the PR that it has at the moment, then it may reduce it in the next update. Many webmasters frequently get into discussions with one another about whether or not it’s safe to buy links from other webmasters. Now although the search engines frown upon this type of stuff it’s completely safe for you to buy links for your website. As long as you don’t make the links look unnatural then you’ll be completely fine in the search engines, but if you do have unnatural links then you could be looking at getting de-indexed from the search engines.

If you begin buying links in blog networks and other spammy areas of the internet then you’re going to be placing a risk on your website of being punished. I personally wouldn’t recommend buying blog network links that are all associated with each other because they’ll be deemed a link farm and your site will be punished for having a link on them. There are many forums where you’ll find people selling links on their blogs and websites. Both offer great links and you should try getting both blog and website links. Try to avoid sitewide links when you’re buying links because you don’t want it too appear like a bought link. Ask the owner of the website to place your link on the homepage only. You may also be able to find some webmasters selling links on inner pages of their blogs and websites, which are also great for buying as long as they have page rank. You should be able to pick these inner content links up for cheaper then homepage links as well, and they will send the same amount of link juice so it’s a great way too save some money and purchase more links with. If the page where your link is going doesn’t have page rank then it isn’t even worth looking at too buy because there won’t be any benefits from it.

You’ll also need to make sure that you’re checking out each individual website before you buy a link on it. You’re spending your hard earned money on links so you first want to make sure the person you’re buying the links from is trustworthy. Many people sell links on monthly and yearly terms, but then a week later the link will be taken down by them. Try to avoid these webmasters as there only a huge waste of time and never result in anything good. Things you should look for before buying a link on a website is things such as how many backlinks it has, the page rank of where your link will be, cost, is the domain dropped and what niche it is. Only ever buy links that are relevant with your website because the search engines give far more value to relevant links then links that are opposites of each other.

Knowing the difference between Do-Follow and No-Follow Links

Not everyone knows the difference between a do-follow link and a no-follow link, but they are two links that differ by a lot and you should make sure you know how they differ. If you have no-follow links then the links won’t be counted towards any search engine rankings, but if the link is do-follow then you will get a boost in your search engine rankings for the given keyword phrase that the link is under. Do-follow links is the only type of links that will help you when trying to help you search engine rankings or when trying to raise your page rank. Not a lot of the links that you build will be no-follow and if you’re wasting your time on building no-follow links then you need to reconsider how you’re spending your time.

When you comment on a blog you should make sure that you spend time only commenting on the blogs that have do-follow links enabled. Usually a blogger will show you that their blog is do-follow by showing some image near the comment box that says something like U-Comment – I-Follow. This means that the blog should be do-follow and that the links will count towards helping you in the search engines. Not too many bloggers allow this though on their blogs, and when you do find them it’s hard to find any pages on the blog with page rank that you can comment on. Finding these links is over half the battle that you will face when searching for these links, but once you have them then you can re-use them on all of your blogs which can help you out in the long run.

Certain links on many of the social bookmarking sites are also no-follow, but these should still be pursued by you as a blogger because they offer an initial traffic surge. It only takes a couple minutes to do and will help your blog in the long run with building an established traffic base. Even if a link isn’t do-follow it can still be profitable pending it brings you in a lot of clicks, so sometimes it’s wise to get some links in high traffic areas even if they are no-follow links.

Most of your links that you’ve built in the past will most likely be no-follow links since there always abundant and easy to get. Once you find a couple high rankings pages that have do-follow enabled though then you should be able to increase your page rank and search engine rankings with just a couple links. It’s not always the amount of links that matters for search engine rankings as you’ll learn. For instance one of my blogs has thousands of no-follow links and is PR0 and another one of my blogs has roughly 100 backlinks and is a PR4 because it has strong do-follow backlinks.

You should also make sure that you remember the use of the different links when you blog on your own blog as well, because there is no point giving someone a do-follow link when they shouldn’t get one. If all of the links on your blog are do-follow then it could also hurt your search engine rankings simply because of all the outgoing links that you will have on your blogs. If you make the link no-follow then it won’t be credited a backlink from your blog which means that it won’t hurt your page rank or rankings in the search engines at all. Often people need to use a link in their blog posts which if you post daily can add up to a lot of outgoing links fairly quickly, so to avoid this make sure you use the no-follow attribute when adding your links to your posts.
