How to become a webmaster? (Part – 3)

After going through the last two parts of our “how to become a webmaster” series, you would have understood that its not money that’s important for becoming a webmaster, but its time and effort from your side. And a webmaster forum is the right platform for you to make a start.

Now that you have planned to spend a few hours daily at webmaster forums, lets look into things that you should be doing there. At first your ultimate aim should be to learn. You may find others talking about making money online. Don’t rush and get into those things before you learn the basics. There are a lot of things to learn and understand before you should even think about making money online.

We have been mentioning the word “forum” for some time now. Do you know what exactly is a forum? How is it different from a normal website? See, forums are websites where people can register an account and start discussions. While registering for an account, you’ll be asked to provide a username and password. The username can be anything easy to spell. And while choosing a password make sure that, you create a unique one. Don’t use the same password everywhere. If the password is a mix of alphabets and numbers, then it would be a stronger one than the usual one which people create using just alphabets.

After creating an account in the webmaster forum, you’ll have to use the username and password of your account to login there in the site. Always you should be logged in if you want to discuss something with the community. If you are accessing the site from your personal laptop, then you can make the browser to save the username and password for you. This way, every time you open the site, you’ll be automatically logged in without even typing the username or password.

That’s it for now. In the next part, we’ll be telling you about the user interface of a webmaster forum. After going through the next part, you’ll be in a position to send personal messages, emails to other members of the forum and the such. You’ll be learning about signatures, profiles and other such things as well. So stay tuned to know more – on how to become a webmaster.

How to become a webmaster? (Part – 2)

In the first part of our “how to become a webmaster” series, we’ve discussed about the first step that you should be taking in order to become a successful webmaster. It was about registering in webmaster forums, where you’ll be learning the basics. It is to be understood that, no one is born as an expert, people become experts after practicing what they have learned. But for practicing something, you should be first of all learning something. With nothing in your brain, you won’t get anywhere. So, as we have mentioned in the first part, the key to success is to learn the basics and then practice it. In this part we’ll be concentrating on this topic.

If you want to become a webmaster, then one of the best place where you’ll be getting the right coaching is from webmaster forums. You won’t have to spend any money for it. But you’ll have to spend something else. That’s nothing, but time. Only if you are having time to spend at webmaster forums, you’ll be learning something from there. You won’t be able to learn everything the very first day. You may have to spend days or even months. That will depend on the skills that you are with, at the moment. If you know something about webmasters and what they does, then things will be easy for you. On the other hand, if you know nothing, then it’ll take you some time to learn the basics. Again, nothing is impossible, if you are with the determination to learn it at any cost, then time is the only thing that should be with you. And you’ll learn everything in no time. No doubt about it.

So that’s it, there is no need to make any investment, there is no need to hire any personal coach to teach you things, there is no need to attend any classes neither. All you have to do is – make yourself prepared to spend some time everyday, for learning the basic things at webmaster forums. This way, in no time, you’ll be learning the basics of becoming a webmaster.

We’ll throw more light on this topic in the next part of our “how to become a webmaster” series. So, stay tuned.

How to become a webmaster? (Part – 1)

Before you move any further, you should be registering at some webmaster forums. I’d recommend you to register at the top 2-3 webmaster forums rather than registering at just one. But why to register at those sites? I know you’ll be asking that question.

Webmaster forums are sites where you’ll find experienced webmasters. What are they doing there? They’ll be either promoting their business, or simply helping others. By helping others, their reputation is gonna increase, and they will be also getting some other benefits. We’ll discuss those things some other day.

So webmaster forums are just for experienced webmasters? Nope, not like that. There you’ll see people like you as well. They’ll be either learning things from other webmasters or practicing what they have learned. You can start by clearing your doubts. You’ll get surprised when you see, even new members replying to your queries. That’s because they might have already got answers to such questions from experienced webmasters out there when they asked those kinda questions earlier, when they were new there.

Don’t feel shy to ask questions. The questions that you might be feeling to ask may sound simple even for you. But, if you are having doubts, then you should ask them and clear those doubts the same moment. Only then, you’ll be able to become a successful webmaster. One thing to note is that – don’t spam the forum with questions that are already asked by others. Before you ask questions, its recommended to search for answers using the search facility provided in the forum. And even after visiting the threads started by others, if you’re still having doubts, then go ahead and clear your doubts by starting a new thread. Again, make sure that you are starting threads at the right place. There will be different sections in the site for discussing different topics like programming, business, blogging, search engines, marketing, search engine optimization etc. There will be a general section as well, where you’ll be able to ask general questions that don’t fit under any other section.

That’s all for now. Check out the next part for more.

How to Retain Your Blog Readership

How to Retain Your Blog Readership

There are countless articles published on the internet talking about how you can build traffic to your blog and there seems to be an unlimited amount of resources to building your traffic. The only problem is that most of the traffic generation techniques that are being taught don’t send return visitors. I simply mean that you may get traffic by completing certain things like article marketing, social bookmarking and link building but the traffic typically won’t sustain and everyday you’ll need to regain the traffic. The point of blogging is to have a solid readership that comes back to your blog on a daily basis, and this is when you can start making good money with your blog so you need to do your best at retaining visitors. There are some great methods at retaining your visitors and building a readership and I’m going to briefly talk about some of these methods with you right now.

Unique Themes

You should make sure that your blog uses a unique theme, simply because too many people use the free blog themes and they don’t stand out anymore. If you use a unique theme that is attractive you can build your blogs branding while also gaining a solid readership. People are also more inclined to read blogs that are designed nicely according to surveys recently conducted. You can buy a coded WordPress theme for under $200 nowadays on many webmaster forums so the investment isn’t going to make you reach too deeply into your pockets.

Great Content

An attractive theme isn’t going to be the only thing you need in order to stand out from the rest of the blogging world and you’re going to need to put a lot of effort into your content as well. Writing blog posts is an ongoing process that you need to do everyday, but you need to make sure that you do in fact post daily so that when you begin to grow a readership they have content to read that is fresh. The search engines also love content so the more you post on your blog with useful content the more search engine placements you’ll begin ranking for.

RSS Feed Subscriber

You need to make sure you utilize the RSS feed subscriber which allows your readers to read your blog from a number of different blog readers on the internet. The more RSS feed subscribers you have the better because this means that people want to keep your blog nearby so they can continue reading it. You should have a widget in your header or sidebar that allows all of your readers to join your RSS feed and there is also a plug-in that you should use. The plug-in will post a short line at the bottom of each of your blog posts automatically that asks the reader to join your RSS feed and gives them the link to join. This is a great way at reminding people about your RSS feed and can result in more readership.

As you can tell there are quite a few methods that you can use to make your readership stick around and keep coming back to your blog. You should also keep reading the internet for other great sources because there are more ways to retain your blog readership other then the ones I listed above. You should also be trying to make your blog more enjoyable for the readers because after all the success of your blog depends solely on the readers.

Tips for Freelance Writers

Tips for Freelance Writers

If you want to become a freelance writer on the internet nowadays you better make sure that you’re ready to be committed to your work. There are lots of places too find freelance writing gigs and you shouldn’t have a problem finding jobs although once you mess up once you could ruin your entire business. Word of mouth is huge between webmasters and if you have a bad experience with a client then you can be assured that they will most likely talk about it online. You don’t want to get a bad name for yourself in the freelance business so do everything you can to make sure all of your clients are satisfied with the work that they buy off of you. There are plenty of tips you can follow to help you become a freelance writer and we’re going to take a look at some of those tips now.

Utilize webmaster forums

The number one place to find clients is on webmaster forums such as Digital Point and Sitepoint. There is a wide range of writing gigs available on these websites and if you possess good command of your writing then you won’t have a problem finding repeat clients. I’ve been using Digital Point for all of my jobs and have been going steady for almost the past year now. If you don’t want to use forums then you shouldn’t be in this business as you need to spend a lot of time on forums. I’ve spent countless hours building relationships on the forum and from that now I have lots of repeat business.

Have a portfolio website

You don’t necessarily need to own a website in the beginning, but once you decide you’re going to do this full-time then you’ll want your own website. Your website should be used as a portfolio so that people can view samples of your writing before they make any orders. It’s only fair to show potential clients samples of your writing, and in fact most people on forums will request samples before making a purchase. If you have a website set-up then you can point people to the URL instead of having to send samples to every person who asks for them. You may also get some extra business from your website as it ages and gets ranked in the search engines.

Don’t accept more than you can handle

Too many of the freelance writers I see on forums nowadays will accept more work then they can handle and this results in a lot of angry clients. The goal in freelance writing is too establish a big enough list of return clients so that you always have work available. To do this though you’ll need to have good relationships with your clients and you need to make sure you always meet deadlines. One bad customer can cause your entire business to fall apart so never take advantage of anyone. A business needs to be run honestly which means you sell what you say you’re selling and always honour your sales.

These are some of the more mandatory tips you need to follow in the early stages of your freelancing writing business and as time passes you should learn many other tips from fellow writers. There are lots of great resources on Digital Point forum for writers and a massive community to chit chat with. Don’t limit yourself to only forums as there are plenty of other opportunities out there. Also make sure that you work on some of your own websites so that you can earn some extra monthly income once they begin earning.

Can I Build My Blog Links to Quickly

Can I Build My Blog Links to Quickly

Bloggers constantly are working on building links to there blog and you can believe on many webmaster forums there are bloggers discussing whether or not links can be built to quickly on a blog. I tend to believe that as long as you’re building natural links to your blog, then you won’t be penalized and I haven’t seen any evidence to show me that bloggers have been punished for building natural links too quickly. The problem is that some bloggers use unethical techniques or automated software to build links and these are the people that are punished. Any type of link building that looks unnatural to the search engines will usually result in your blog becoming banned from that search engines index. Being banned from Google could ruin the whole blog and you might need to start over again on a new domain if it happens so try to make sure you only use ethical link building techniques.

If you feel the method is dodgy then don’t do it for your blog, instead test it out on another domain you own and see what happens. This is how I find out if many of the services offered around webmaster forums are worth it or not. If it bans a new blog then I don’t really care and its lesson learned for cheap, but if you use the service on your good blog first then if it’s a shifty service you might be in trouble with the search engines.

As long as you follow basic rules then you will be fine when building links. For instance many bloggers are good at writing content and therefore receive a lot of link bait, which results in a ton of backlinks very quickly for the blogger. The search engines don’t punish the blogger for this as it’s a natural form of link building. If you use an automated program to submit your blog to a thousand directories then you might need to be a bit concerned about Google and the other search engines banning your blog.

If you think your site might be banned then check the index of the search engines to see if your blogs pages are still appearing in the search rankings. Also check your stats to see if there is a big dip in the search engine traffic, because this either means you’re in the sandbox or banned. If you’re in the sandbox this could be because your domain is new and therefore you’ll need to wait a few months to regain your search engine rankings. In the meantime you should build more backlinks to your blog though.
