Monetizing your Blog

After you have set-up your wordpress blog and begun getting some traffic to your blog from your link building and from the search engines you can begin monetizing your blog. You shouldn’t start monetizing your blog too early because it will turn some people off from your blog. Also make sure that you don’t make each post a big advertisement for some product or advertisement because your readers won’t enjoy that too much. You need to figure out the perfect combination of ads to make money off of your blog while keeping your readers happy.

Pay-Per-Click Ads

Google Adsense is the biggest ad network for bloggers and you’ll be best off using them for your pay per click ads. You simply make some pay per click ads to the size you need them in the Adsense admin section and implement them into your blog. The size of the ads will make a big difference so make sure you don’t try adding too big of ads into your blog. You should try to implement the ads into your blog so that they fit right into the content as it will draw in more clicks.

Affiliate Leads

Many of the affiliate networks offer leads that you can add to your blog and what this means is simply that you send your readers to a lead page where they sign-up for something free. Leads don’t pay that much when there free, but some of the leads which cost money will pay a lot of money. You’ll also find that you have better luck trying to get people to join leads then buy products.

Affiliate Products

All affiliate networks have products that you can promote and you can either add links or banners to your blog to promote these products. It’s best to generally write a review as a blog post to promote the product this way it won’t interfere with your blog. You will be paid on a commission basis for the products you sell ranging anywhere from 5-75%.

Link & Banner Sales

There are lots of webmasters and businesses that will buy links and banners from blogs with traffic and you can make lots of money with ads. You can choose to find the people privately on webmaster forums or you could advertise your blog in some of the networks out there that allow you to advertise your blog in hopes of selling links and banners. Many of the networks work great and will find you advertisers quickly, it’s best if your blog is niched based though when looking for private ad sales.

There are lots of ways you can monetize your blog as you can see, and I haven’t touched all of the methods either. I’ve gone through the most popular methods, but there are some other things that can make you money depending on your website niche. I’d recommend starting out with these monetization methods first so that you can make some money before moving onto other areas. Also remember that you should stay with the same networks until you reach minimum payouts so that you don’t have money sitting in a bunch of networks that you can’t withdraw. It’s a rookie mistake that many webmasters make and I don’t want to see you waiting months for your first check.

There are a ton methods that bloggers can use to make money on there blog but some are less known then others and often bloggers don’t use some of the most profitable and effective methods of monetization. A lot of bloggers use affiliate networks, me included but the fact is there is also another method to make more money. If you’re wondering what that method is, it’s simply to either make your own products or to buy products with master resale rights or private label rights. Make sure they come with the rights listed above so that you have the complete documentation to be able to sell the products or else you could run into legal troubles for illegally selling a product you’re not aloud to. Believe me when I tell you this it’s definitely something you don’t want to get into because it’s a battle you’ll lose nine times out of time and many product owners will go through the troubles of suing you.

Once you buy some products with master resale rights you can then create a review for it and make a new page on your blog selling the product. You now will be able to retain 100% of the money that you sell the product for instead of only receiving a commission like you do from affiliates. This is a method often overlooked by your average webmaster and it’s why lots of A list bloggers are making such good money. If you notice most of the products they promote are either their own products or products they retain full profit from because of owning rights to sell it. There is still money in affiliate networks and I don’t recommend selling your own products until you’ve got an established blog, but once you do and you have your marketing techniques down to a science then promoting your own products is amazingly beneficial.

There are also benefits of selling your own product or a product with master resale rights over selling affiliate products. The main benefit would obviously be that you keep all the profit and you don’t give any of it to anyone. Apart from that though there are still so other benefits like the fact you can set whatever price you choose for the products and also how you promote them. Many affiliate products have huge sets of terms and conditions which usually save their butt, when you sell your own product then you make the rules of how everything goes and you simply do as you please.

Selling your own products or products you’ve bought rights to is definitely the best way to earn a full-time income on the internet. One product can make sales for years down the road without doing anything except a bit of promotion in the early stages. There are lots of products on the internet that you can buy rights to as well you just need to make sure that you buy the right products that will sell. There is no point in buying products that are ten years old because the information will be outdated and you’ll have trouble making any sales.

Considering Affiliate Networks

Considering Affiliate Networks?

The first step in choosing an affiliate network to use is by either signing-up for multiple networks or looking at reviews which can be found all over the internet. Many networks will have the same offers but you’ll notice that some networks will pay more for the same offer when compared with other networks. This tells me only one thing, which is that some affiliate networks are just too greedy and therefore I don’t give them my business. Remember with so many options for affiliate networks to choose from you can always find one willing to pay more so don’t settle for any amount. If you feel that you should be making more per sale or lead then make sure you express your thoughts with your affiliate manager. Often if you can bring in a certain amount of leads or sales then you can get an increase in the amount you get paid, but sometimes they’ll rise the payout just to increase your motivation. I always live by the rule that I’m doing the affiliate network a favour by working with them, so therefore they should bend over backwards to meet everything I need. Once you’ve chosen an affiliate network to be with then you needs to decide upon the next most important thing which is whether you’ll aim to sell products or leads. I always recommend to new affiliates that you begin with lead offers because frankly a user will sign-up for something free well before they buy anything. Let’s talk a look at some of the disadvantages and advantages of choosing either sales or leads and then from there you should have a clearer idea which one is most suitable for you.

Sales

Sales is generally more appealing to a more veteran affiliate marketer rather then a new affiliate marketer simply because it can be difficult to get sales. With sales you’re paid based on a commission, which means you simply add products to your blog and direct people to the product page of the affiliate. If they buy the product you get paid a commission, which basically breaks down affiliate sales. If you have an established niche blog you’ll do well with sales generally, but if you have a new blog then it can be really hard to get sales, and you’ll also lose some readers if you over-promote affiliate sales in the beginning.

Leads

Leads are simply where you send someone to a page to sign-up for something free or to apply for something free. Leads never cost any money to the end user which is why there more enticing for them to complete and why new bloggers should utilize these before moving to sales. You can get paid anywhere from $1-$100 per lead depending on the niche of your blog. Obviously topics like health and finance get paid higher for leads then a sports blog, but whatever your niche is there is usually a lead program you can incorporate.

If you’re considering affiliate networks then I would suggest starting with leads and moving up from there as you gain experience. If you have an established blog and just deciding to offer affiliate offers to your readers then you might be able to make some money with sales. It solely depends on your traffic and you’ll need a fairly good reputation with your readers if you expect to buy something from your blog.
