Internet Marketing – Best Internet Marketing Strategies- Part II

In Part I of \”Best Internet Marketing Strategies\”, I described some basic guidelines for creating an effective Internet marketing strategy for product and service based business models. In this column, I would like to analyze on the internet affiliate marketing and how one can compete in the sea of affiliate arbitrageurs.

What is on the internet affiliate marketing? On the web affiliate marketing, for the purpose of this writing, describes the act of marketing a product or service that is owned by someone else for the sole purpose of making a commission or some other satisfying equal benefit.

Generally talking, most successful affiliate strategies employ arbitrage as a model for monetary gain. That is purchasing one resource that can be immediately resold for a profit. You probably have come across some on the internet models such as these:

? Affiliate Networks- ClickBank or Commission Junction ? Lead Generation Networks- home, auto, medical, mortgage, etc. (www.insureme.com) ? Advertising Networks- Google\’s Adsense or Yahoo!\’s Advertising

Similar Strategies, Worlds Apart On the internet affiliate marketing strategies are very similar to traditional product and service strategies in that the basic fundamental marketing concepts apply. One still must consider variables such as: 1. Budget 2. Regionality of market 3. Target audience 4. Core competencies 5. Website (functionality, ease of use, and conversion friendliness)

The context however differs in that the \”action\” takes place on the affiliate or partnering Website. Therefore, the above variables must be invariably in sync with the value proposition of your affiliate and communicate joint benefits. The Website objective on the other hand, is to seamlessly transfer prospective buyers from the partnering site to the affiliate in a way that maximizes conversion behavior. In contrast, traditional on the internet strategies typically aim at keeping the visitor on the page and thus making the content sticky.

Benefits of Online Affiliate Marketing One of the major benefits affiliate marketing is lowered risk. Risk in this marketing model is shifted to the affiliate whom assumes risk for ultimately creating and maintaining the sale.

Another equally attractive benefit is that partnering site is exempt from carrying any Inventory and only must focus on on the internet marketing efforts.

Lastly, online affiliate marketing can be lucrative when successfully executed. For some Websites, this is the only source of revenue, which can even surpass the sites primary objective.

\”Work from home and earn $1000\’s while you sleep!\” Its simple money, so why doesn\’t everyone do it? Unfortunately, the Web is full of too many get rich quick programs that promise huge returns in exchange for little effort. You know…the American way! But in the sea of affiliates there do lie opportunities for those who are willing to work form them. However, affiliate marketing is not for everyone. Just like any other strategy, it requires a great deal of thought and resources to market successfully. If you\’re looking for the get swift riches, it\’s a die-hard game that\’s played best by the ones who wrote the book.

Affiliate strategies can also be difficult to execute given the amount of affiliates competing against one another. In addition, this increased competition inflates marketing costs associated to the advertising vehicles used to promote the affiliate. For example, if you plan on advertising via pay-per-click, keyword costs can be very high for generic terms thus pushing affiliates to purchase keywords that carry less competition. When many affiliates go to purchase the same keywords, this in effect inflates the keyword market. Worst of all, more money for the affiliating site means that keyword costs will continue to rise.

So how can I compete? If your going to compete in the affiliate world, there are two key factors that will equal success: 1. Quantity of quality targeted traffic that provides ROI 2. Solid on the internet objective in persuading visitors to click on your affiliate sites

The first factor relates to how relevant your audience perceives your value proposition in relation to what they are seeking. Quantity refers to the amount of targeted visitors you can attract that works to your ROI model. The most successful affiliate marketers can calculate their ROI attributed to their online marketing efforts on the micro level. Moreover, if the ROI is determined to be positive, the game swiftly turns into numbers.

The second factor relates to how well your Website can persuade visitors to click on affiliate links, which in turn means commissions. However, without executing the first key factor successfully, all the traffic in the world to your affiliate will not translate into the desired outcome. Here are some things to think about when optimizing your website for your affiliate strategy:

1. Website communicates similar value proposition of the affiliating site 2. Website clearly directs traffic off site to the affiliate 3. Advertisements and marketing efforts are in sync with the website objective 4. Website is resource oriented and not \”spammy\” 5. Website look and feel is in keeping with competitor sites

Summary Finding the ultimate online affiliate strategy can be challenging. After all, if it were easy, not only would everyone be doing it, they also would be making tons of money. I advocate that you first begin by examining the affiliate\’s chosen business model before diving in with both feet. What is their value proposition? How can you make use of that proposition, yet still be one-of-a-kind in the market place? (If your not, who would want to do business with you?) As I said earlier, affiliate marketing is not for everyone. However, you your strategy is solid, you might find yourself writing the book for others to follow.

Convert once, get paid over and over…

One of my favorite “business models” is selling subscriptions. Some people call this “continuity”.

\n

The real beauty of this is that you sell something to someone one time, and then you keep getting paid over and over… until they decide to stop the subscription.

\n

Sorta the way your cable company works. Think about it, they got you to sign up and you just keep paying every single month.

\n

Now wouldn’t it be sweet if you were on the OTHER side of that transaction, and you were the one collecting the checks every month?

\n

Well, the REALLY cool thing is that on the Internet it’s EASY to create a business that does EXACTLY that. Just think if you had 100, or 200, or even 1000 people paying you AUTOMATICALLY month after month. That’s a beautiful thing.

\n

Of course, this isn’t a new idea… but in the last few years there are a couple of guys who have really PERFECTED this business. You can read more about them here:

\n

Convert once, get paid over and over…

\n

This stuff will COMPLETELY change your business.
\nDon’t miss it. If you look at the biggest, most successful businesses online (I am talking businesses that actually make massive profits), a huge percentage are really “membership” sites.

\n

But don’t get me wrong – this is also a model that is perfect for small one and two-person businesses. Check it out now:

\n

Convert once, get paid over and over…

\n

Best regards,
\nEric

\n

P.S. If I had to start all over, this is probably the ONE business model I would go after. This stuff is that cool.

I’ll Take MY Girls Over The Rich Jerk’s Girls Any Day of The Week…

\'erica-face.jpg\'We recently had a family emergency that has helped me keep things in perspective..

\n

My 3 year old daughter was playing with her large sisters and wound up getting a rather bad head injury.

\n

In fact it was so bad that we had to take her to the hospital emergency room. She had a huge gash in the top of her head that was so long and so deep I could actually see part of her skull. (Take it from me… As a father, if there is ANY part of your child you never want to see it’s their skull!)

\n

Fortunately she is doing just fine (except for a few STAPLES in her head!) (more…)

10 Easy Ways to Improve Internal Linking on Your Blog

An effective internal linking strategy is important for a few reasons: 1) It helps to increase page views and encourage readers to stay on your blog longer by providing enticing links to content that may interest them, and 2) it can help to improve the search engine rankings for your posts and pages.

\n

\"internallinks.gif\"

\n

In this article we’ll take a look at ten simple ways to improve the internal linking throughout your blog. Put these into action and you’ll be well on your way to creating a more user-friendly blog and also helping your search engine rankings at the same time.

\n

1. Use a sitemap
\nSitemaps are not only important for helping visitors find what they’re looking for, but they’re also an easy way to increase the amount of internal links to your important pages. I’m not talking about XML sitemaps created for search engines (although they can be important too), but rather a sitemap for your readers with links to all of your posts, or at least your most important ones.

\n

WordPress users can use the Sitemap Generator Plugin from Dago Design to automatically create a sitemap for their blog. This plugin creates a helpful sitemap page with links to your posts arranged by category.

\n

2. Create a FAQ
\nFrequently Asked Questions pages can help you to get internal links to your posts while using highly targeted keywords and phrases. Create some common questions readers might have that can be answered by your blog posts. Pose the question on the FAQ page and partially answer the question and provide a link to a particular post for more information. When phrasing the questions, use keywords that readers are likely to use when performing a search, as this can help to improve traffic from search engines. Also use keywords in the anchor text of the links to your posts.

\n

3. Link to related posts
\nLinking to posts on similar topics can help your readers to find additional content that may interest them. Just as importantly, it can also improve the number of internal links to your blog posts. You can manually create related links at the end of your posts, or you can use a plugin to do it for you. WordPress users can download the Related Entries plugin.

\n

4. Include links to your most popular posts on your sidebar
\nMany blogs contain links to specific posts in the sidebar. Linking to those that are the most popular is a good way to increase your page views and also to improve your internal link strength. This also can either be done manually or with the use of a plugin. Doing it manually will require updates and changes whenever you want to feature new posts, whereas a plugin like MostWanted will eliminate the manual effort.

\n

5. Write a series of posts
\nOne simple way of building up the number of internal links going from one post to another is to write a series. As the series is written and published each post can link to the others. If you have a very long post, consider breaking it into a series. Be careful not to do this all the time as your readers might begin to feel like you are using them to gain page views.

\n

6. Do a weekly or monthly summary
\nMany bloggers wrap up each month with a post that links to some of the most popular current posts on the blog with a brief description of each. This obviously gives you a chance to add some internal links, and it can help readers who may have missed some posts as well as new subscribers who might not have had the opportunity to read some of your ideal work.

\n

7. Place links on your 404 pages
\nError pages are frustrating to visitors. Help make your 404 error pages more-user friendly and drive a tiny bit of extra traffic to some of most important posts. Most WordPress themes include a 404.php file that can be edited to include and content you want, including links. If you are using a WordPress theme that does not include a 404 file, see the WordPress Codex for instructions.

\n

8. Include links in your footer
\nDepending on what blog theme you are using, your footer may be wasted space that includes very tiny valuable content. Many visitors who have read to the bottom of your posts or scrolled all the way down looking for something will check the footer for relevant links rather than scrolling back to the top. Why not provide these visitors with links to other posts or pages on your blog?

\n

9. Use text links throughout posts
\nAs your writing your blog posts keep an open eye for opportunities to link to older posts. If you have text relates to the topic of an older post, create a link. As you build more and more content this will be even easier to do. It’s also a good idea to periodically go back through some of your older posts to look for linking opportunities to more current posts that did not exist at the initial time of publishing.

\n

It may be especially beneficial to include links in the first few paragraphs of a post, as some bloggers have reported highly increased click-through rates from RSS readers with links high in the content,

\n

10. The aLinks plugin for WordPress
\nWordPress users can take advantage of the aLinks plugin to automatically create links for commonly used phrases throughout their blog posts. The plugin is designed for use with internal links as well as external links (especially affiliate links).\n
