Tales From the Blogosphere

I entered the blogosphere fairly late in the game. More than three years after starting and managing several busy forums and web sites, I dabbled with blogging through regular entries to one of my aviation web sites. Within weeks I got exhausted of the discipline – not of writing – but of ftp\’ing everything to the web. I gave up as I decided blogging was not for me.

Fortunately, I didn\’t stay away as I saw a challenge, and an opportunity, in front of me. Having blogged on other people\’s sites, I felt that if I could blog there, I could blog anywhere, including on my own blogs. Taking a look at my options, I decided to download wordpress and I now run two blogs from two separate web sites.

I am thrilled with each blog\’s success and have no plans of giving up on what I am doing. In fact, I am mulling over starting a couple of more blogs as I see the value of this type of medium on the internet.

So, how are my site\’s doing? Very well according to my sites\’ statistics. No, there isn\’t much activity as far as comments go, but my information is getting read and the blogs are bringing additional traffic to both sites. Let\’s just state that the traffic increases alone have been enough to keep me going, but other factors weigh in including:

Blurbs – There are times when a full length article just doesn\’t cut it, but a blurb [pithy paragraph] does. blogs are great for showcasing tidbits of information and allowing bloggers to link to the full article if more information is desired.

Links – On my Jet Movements blog, I added over 200 aviation related links recently. Within days, traffic to my site increased and the first page rankings came back from google. Less than six weeks after starting, the traffic to this particular blog has been great.

Showcase – My second blog, The Article Writer, has helped me communicate better to my customers. Now, my customers can read about my writing style, my comments on raising seo, book reviews, and more. This blog has given a \”human touch\” to an otherwise good, but too-business-like web site.

Idea Farm – Some of my blogs have turned into articles as I have taken a short, concise work and expanded on what I wrote through an article. Saves me time, too, as all I have to do is add a couple of extra paragraphs and my article is usually done.

Yes, blogging is a great way to communicate for business folks as well as teens. Some have thought that blogging was a fad, but I must state that it isn\’t and it is certainly here to stay. Have you started your blog yet?

7 Secrets to a Successful Business Blog: How to Blog Smart

Today\’s software makes it so simple to set up a blog that it seems like everybody and their neighbor has a blog. Yes, they are a fad right now. And yes, they are a great business tool for any business, huge or small – and they\’re here to stay.

Especially for the independent professional, a blog is an simple communication tool to build credibility and trust. Most importantly, blogs make it easy for people to find you on the Web.

But 9 out of 10 blogs created will be abandoned because they can take up a lot of time in a busy professional\’s life, and results may not be evident right away.

There are several keys to making your blog work for you, instead of the other way around. Once you learn and integrate these steps, it should take you only 10-20 minutes per post. It\’s suggested that an additional 20 minutes a couple of times per week should be spent reading and commenting on other blogs and sites on the Web so you can bring valuable information to your readers.

7 Secrets to a Successful Business blog

1. Write valuable content and share stories to showcase your knowledge and expertise. Do not forget to explain how you work with clients and let readers know how to contact you, hire you, purchase a product or register for your services.

2. Write 2-3 times a week, short articles of 250-350 words each time. Occasionally, a longer article can be shared, using the extended post feature.

3. Link profusely to other resources on the web. This is essential for building traffic and enlarging your reading audience. Spend some time, 2-3 times a week researching your area of expertise on the Web. Leave comments on other blogs.

4. Submit to blog directories and ping each time you post. If you don\’t know how to do this, get a blog coach or buy and read an instructional manual, such as the ebook at www.BuildaBetterblogSystem.com.

5. Track and monitor your visitor stats. Install a counter on your blog so you know what is happening. For example, a free counter can be found at www.SiteMeter.com.

6. List all your products and affiliate products and make sure you have the landing pages properly linked. Use your affiliate links and ad-tracking features if you have a shopping cart.

7. Don\’t forget to link to your own website and vice versa! This is one reason we like to have the blog separate from your website, rather than installing blog software incorporated into your website. It\’s like having two fishing poles in the pond.

Like any marketing effort, persistence pays off. In six months of regular blogging, assuming you are providing valuable content, you should see a significant increase in your web site traffic, the client leads, and overall total revenue for your business.

If not, you are not blogging smart!

Why Journal Writing On The Web? Blogs Are Journals Giving Anyone An Identity, And An Awesome Forum For Sharing Thoughts And Ideas With Others Of Similar Interests

Why Journal Writing On The Web? blogs Are Journals Giving Anyone An Identity, And An Awesome Forum For Sharing Thoughts And Ideas With Others Of Similar Interests

 by: M6.Net

Journal writing used to be a private, personal experience done late at night, scribbling hardly legible thoughts and daily occurrences down on paper amidst the haze of a barely lit room. When read over on a later date one could find connections and coincidences that sometimes brought deeper insights into the meaning of life. Also, old ideas could be rekindled that otherwise may have been forgotten forever.

In the 21st century a strange new type of journal writing is becoming prevalent in contemporary society. Called blogs, these are journals used by the masses. Why are people sharing their thoughts instead of keeping them private like the days of old? These journals are found on the World Wide Web and can be used for a number of purposes. The Web is a public sphere and human souls are realizing that sharing their ideas and beliefs can have that same epiphany type of effect on others as the old type of journal had on the personal writer. People are also feeling that they have an identity, and putting it on the Web is a great way of expressing themselves. Anyone can do it, and besides words, visuals can also be integrated into the journal, often making the blogs very appealing to readers/ viewers.

blogs are becoming an excellent way of sharing information on any and each subject. Instead of searching google for general sites about surfing, or 60s music, one can go straight to a blog on the subject in question and read daily thoughts and ideas by others with the same interest as well as expert points of view. If you own a business, you can see what entrepreneurs already based in your proposed field feel about the industry. As its a journal structure, the reader can see how certain individuals beliefs have changed over time.

As the world around us is constantly in transition, humans have always looked for superior ways of living and growing as a species. The Information Age has helped our society in innumerable ways. On-line journals are becoming the next step in giving voice to each person who has access to a personal and the Net. As well as putting ones identity out there with the masses, people are hearing the inner workings of minds with similar interests. blogs are a phenomenon helping to create a more interconnected, socially aware global community.

Bad Blogs Have Got To Go, Blogging Could Be Really Cool If Done Properly, Maybe Even With A Pinch Of Love.

Bad blogs Have Got To Go, blogging Could Be Really Cool If Done Properly, Maybe Even With A Pinch Of Love.

 by: M6.net

Theres a lot of blogs out there on the Web, most of which dont entice one to go back regularly to read updates. What is missing from these on-line journals that would essentially make them good blogs? Well, the answers in life usually come down to simplicities. So lets look at the problem like we were children. Children dont complicate life with miscellaneous information, and when they talk they tell you straight to the point exactly how they feel and think about a subject.

First of all, we should ask the questions, Why do blogs exist? And what are they here for? Well, in an best world good blogs would help people connect, sharing knowledge and feelings about issues in life. As they are journals written by individuals we would hope that theyd be readable and open to comment by all other people, not just a choose group of friends. The key is speaking in a way that is understandable by the masses, get rid of acronyms and local slang that only few will comprehend. Keep the sentences grammatically easy and generally short and concise.

Try to write in your blog as often as possible because if people enjoy reading your thoughts and ideas theyll want to communicate or at least be filled in regularly on your world. Ask questions, comment on other blogs of similar content, start communities with others youve never met, based on your interests. Keep focused; if your blog is about thoughts on war and peace, keep your thoughts on the latest movie and how hungry you are for somewhere else. The idea is to incite intelligent communication so that in time our collective stockpile of knowledge and wisdom will gradually grow like a tree in fertile soil.

I think of most importance is the fact that you want this journal to be good reading. Of course we all have ideas about what genres and styles we like, but writing from your heart and soul is imperative for the connection with others that youre looking for. Share yourself; dont hide behind walls of fear of ridicule and judgment. In real life relationships trust, respect, intimacy, and unity are all necessary for a bond to form. Its the same in the virtual world; people want to hear from real people-not just one-sided, highly opinionated arguments from egos that dont want to hear the other side of the coin.

Now, in my last article I really tore apart most writers out there, and here Im giving some pretty complex ideas on how to fix the problem of bad writing. In my next article Ill attempt to go back to the easy basics of how to write for beginners. I hope I havent come across as too judgmental, I just truly believe the blog world could become a real asset to humanity, and at the moment its missing the mark.

Ideas about sentence structure, grammar, paragraphing, using a thesaurus (varying terms used so as not to sound repetitive), whether or not your blog is suitable for a personal or professional approach, are all important to creating a easy and enjoyable read for the blogging visitor. If you are a newbie, please check out my next article on the basics.

What is Blogging?

Frankblogs have been around for many years but have recently become somewhat a new craze. A blog is short for Web Log is basically an online journal. They can be set up at tiny to no cost at all, and can be used for a wide variety of things. Some bloggers just blog for the fun of it, while others tend to use their blogs for business reasons.

The following are just a few ways blogs can be used:

1) Updates
Keep customers/clients up to date on changes to your website. Also new product announcement and new related websites.

2) Reviews
You can give views, advice and personal suggestions on specific products or services related to your field.

3) Personal and Business uses
blogs are a great way to keep track of your goals and plans just by open writing.

4) Stress Reliever
Jot down your vents, gripes, thoughts. Some also find general writing therapeutic.

5) Search Engine Optimization
Search Engines love text and content. You can also include links to your website which equal backward links which in turn equals high ranking.

6) Money Makers
Yes, you can make money with your blog by providing readers with quality copy writing and a few affiliate links.

So how is a blog set up? There are several options you can choose from when starting your own blog, and a few are:

1) Using a free service such as http://www.blogger.com.

2) Using blogger.com (or other free blog provider) with your own domain name that you can purchase through places such as Mommys Helper Domain & Hosting Services http://www.mommyshelperonline.com/web-hosting.html .

3) You can also choose a paid services such as http://www.blogit.com/blogs/Affil/?51483 for as tiny as $5.95 a month.

So you have your blog set up, but how do you get visitors to it and get them comming back? Along with general advertising, here are a few more ideas:

1) Directories
There are many directories that you can submit your blog to such as http://www.blogWise.com To find more simply do a search for blog directories.

2) Link Exchange
Place links on your website to your blog and visa versa.

3) Syndicate Your blog
For example you can now give your visitors the option of having your blog headlines right on their MyYahoo! Page. (example – http://add.my.yahoo.com/rss?url=http%3A//www.2wahms.blogspot.com ) This makes it much simpler for your readers to quickly skim the topic headlines and an added benefit to you the blogger to keep your visitors up to date.

You also have the choice of letting your readers comments on your blog. Most services have these features and can be a great tool to keep your blog interactive between you and your readers.

With all the spam filters and spam blockers available or sometimes even automatically installed in email programs, its getting harder every day to keep in constant contact with your visitors/customers and/or clients. blogs have shed some new light in this aspect giving you a better way to communicate.

Most blog services are very user friendly. If you can run easy programs such as MSWord or Word Perfect then you have the knowledge to maintain your own blog. Theres no need to even have html knowledge. In essence, anyone can have his or her own blog.

Happy blogging!
